Jane Barrett -

I first tried archery on holiday in Cyprus in 2014 and I was hooked.  The first thing I did when I returned was book onto a local beginner’s course but had to wait almost a year for a place. It didn’t put me off. Although I started shooting recurve like most people, my first club had a lot of longbow archer’s who encouraged me to switch to longbow. With lots of advice I purchased my first Gary Evans longbow in 2016 and did my first competition at Dunster. I now have 5 Gary Evan longbows. The club had a good social side and hosted a number of tournaments.  It wasn’t long before I became Membership Secretary and became a coach. I am activity involved in my club Exmouth Archers and I’m currently Secretary.

It wasn’t until 2019 that I decided I wanted a spot on the Devon and Cornwall Longbow County Team which I achieved in my first year of competitive shooting. It was a bit of a whirlwind year travelling all over the country to get the scores.  Sadly, then Covid darkened our doors and 20/21 was a bit of a write off although I managed to achieve 10th in the country in 2021 and received my first invitation to The Masters in 2022.

My goal for 2022 is improve my scores, attain my first Master Bowman classification and finish within the top 10 ranking for Lady Longbow’s. Most importantly I want to enjoy this great sport, have fun with my archery friends on and off the field. I am proud to represent Wales Archery and thank them for all the fantastic support they will give me.
