Rhiannon Servini -
I started my archery journey in Feb 2020 with Llantarnam Archery club as a family activity, but after only 2 beginner sessions the country went into lockdown. Not knowing much about bows and setup, so with a bit of time on my hands I did what all beginners are told not to do and ordered my own basic recurve kit, straw boss and stand online from Wales archery and started shooting in the garden.
Really enjoyed this basic shooting and with the help of a club member’s guidance I started getting reasonably good.
My husband and daughter then got me a shiny Kinetic Arios 2 Spectra Riser and 28 lb limbs for my birthday in 2020 which really got my passion for archery started. I shot that bow for around 12 months both indoors and outdoors changing poundage a couple of times enabling me to shoot out to 70 meters.
Finally, Llantarnam AC was able to open up again and though I loved the discipline of recurve I was really intrigued by the Compound bows and the shooting style. Being a lefty meant there wasn’t really an option of having a go before committing. So back to Wales Archery where the shiny magic of Hoyt compound caught me! And so, in April 2022 I purchased my 1st compound bow from Wales Archery with the help of Stu. As soon as I started shooting the Hoyt Invicta I knew I had found my place in the sport!
I entered my 1st compound competition at Dear Park archers in July 2022, having no expectations or what to expect. I was extremely nervous but the help and support from my Llantarnam teammates was amazing and kept me going all day. Not the finest score but gave me the drive and enthusiasm to push forward with more competitions.
From that first shaky competition, I have been able to progress my archery path quite some distance! Becoming Wales ranked number 1 Lady Compound in 2023, winning both the Welsh outdoor and indoor Champs and rising to 14th place in the UK GB rankings for 2023. All with the help from the shop team and a new Bowtech bow.
I currently hold the Welsh records for
Metric 60m, WA720 at 50m, and double WA720 at 50m.
One of my most proud moments was wining Gold as part of the Welsh team at the British Target Champs in 2023.
I’m now even having a little dabble at Field and 3D.
Becoming a Wales Archery Sponsored Archer in 2023 was amazing and the help from the team has massively aided in my progress.
Thank you to everyone that’s helped and encouraged me on this journey.
